Best Bedsheets for Indian Summers: How to Sleep Cooler on Hot Nights
Share
Indian summers can make a good night's sleep feel impossible. Fans and coolers help, but the sheet you lie on matters more than most people think. A bedsheet that traps heat and sweat will keep you tossing all night, while the right one lets your skin breathe. Here is how to choose a bedsheet that keeps you cooler.
1. Choose pure cotton
Cotton is a natural fibre that lets air pass through and absorbs moisture from your skin. That is exactly what you need on a hot, humid night. Synthetic fabrics like polyester and microfiber feel smooth in the shop, but they hold heat close to your body and do not absorb sweat well, so they can feel sticky in summer.
Always check the label for 100% cotton. Blends with polyester are cheaper, but they lose much of cotton's breathability.
2. Do not chase very high thread counts
A higher thread count is not automatically better in summer. Very dense fabrics let less air through and can feel warmer. For hot weather, a mid-range thread count (around 200 to 300) gives a good balance of softness, durability and airflow. Read our guide on what thread count really means to learn more.
3. Pick light, fresh colours
Light backgrounds like white, ivory, soft grey and pastel tones make a bedroom look calmer and airier. White and light printed sheets with blue, green or soft coral designs are a summer favourite in Indian homes, and they are easy to coordinate.
4. Keep a spare set and wash often
In summer, sweat builds up faster, so wash bedsheets more often, ideally once a week. Having two or three sets means you can rotate them, and each set lasts longer. Wash in cold water and dry in the shade to keep printed colours bright. Our bedsheet care guide has simple tips.
5. Get the size right
A sheet that is too small pulls loose and bunches under you, which makes a hot night even more uncomfortable. Check our king size bedsheet size guide to find the right fit for your mattress.
